गृहस्थ को घर मे कुत्ता नही रखना चाहिये

युधिष्ठिर ने कहा कि मैने इसका पालन नही किया है, यह तो मेरी शरण मे आया है | मै इसको अपना आधा पुण्य देता हूँ, इसी से यह मेरे साथ चलेगा | युधिष्ठिर के ऐसा कहने पर उस कुत्ते मे से धर्मराज प्रकट हो गये और बोले कि मैने तेरी परिक्षा ली थी| तुमने मेरे पर विजय कर ली, अब चलो स्वर्ग |

तात्पर्य है कि गृहस्थ को घर मे कुत्ता नही रखना चाहिये | महाभारत मे आया है-

‘घर मे टूटे-फूटे बर्तन, टूटी खाट, मुर्गा, कुत्ता और अश्वत्थादि वृक्ष का होना अच्छा नही माना गया है | फूटे बर्तन मे कलियुग का वास कहा गया है | टूटी खाट रहने से धन की हानि होती है | मुर्गे और कुत्ते के रहने से देवता उस घर मे हविष्य ग्रहण नही करते तथा मकान के अन्दर कोई बडा वृक्ष होने पर उसकी जड के भीतर साँप, बिच्छू आदि जन्तुओ क रहना अनिवार्य हो जाता है, इसलिये घर के भीतर पेड ना लगाये|’

कुत्ता महान अशुद्ध्, अपवित्र होता है| उसके खान-पान से, स्पर्श से, उसके जगह-जगह बैठने से गृहस्थ के खान-पान मे, रहन-सहन मे अशुद्धि, अपवित्रता आती है और अपवित्रता का फल भी अपवित्र (नरक आदि) ही होता है|

घर मे कुत्ता पालना

प्रश्न- घर मे कुत्ता पालना चाहिये या नही ?

उत्तर-घर मे कुत्त नही रखना चाहिये | कुत्ते का पालन करनेवाला नरको मे जाता है| महाभारत मे आया है कि जब् पाँचो पाण्डव और द्रोपदी वीरसंन्यास लेकर उत्तर कि ओर चले गये तब् चलते-चलते भीमसेन आदि सभी गिर गये |

अन्त मे युधिष्ठिर महाराज भी लडखडा गये, तब् इन्द्र की आज्ञा से मातलि रथ लेकर आया और युधिष्ठिर से कहा कि आप इसी शरीर से स्वर्ग पधारो|

युधिष्ठिर ने देखा कि एक कुत्ता उनके पास खडा है | उन्होने कहा कि यह कुत्ता मेरी शरण मे आया है अतः यह भी मेरे साथ स्वर्ग मे चलेगा| इन्द्र ने युधिष्ठिर से कहा-

‘धर्मराज! कुत्ता रखने वालो के लिये स्वर्गलोक मे स्थान नही है | उनके यज्ञ करने और कुआँ, बावडी आदि बनवाने का जो पुण्य होता है, उसे क्रोध्वश नामक राक्षस हर लेते है इसलिये सोच-विचारकर काम करो ओर इस कुत्ते को छोड दो | ऐसा करने मे कोई निर्द्यता नही है|’
