Prasad

We feel happy that people are showing lot of interest in distributing prasadam to people , even poor people, in front of temples or otherwise. It is truly divine to donate food. But we are noticing the donors are ignoring something important. They are using more and more so called thermocol plates, which are die moulded for distribution of prasad.

Kindly avoid using these plates. You do a good job by distributing food but did you think what happens to the litter created because of this ? People throw hundreds of plates in dustbins around, and where does this trash go ? This so called thermocol, is actually polystyrene (a synthetic petroleum product) It is very slow to biodegrade and therefore a focus of controversy, since it is often abundant as a form of litter in the outdoor environment, particularly along shores and waterways especially in its foam form.

Please do not be a part of hurting Krishna's enviroment in the name of doing something for Krsna.
Plates made from leaves are available in markets, they don't appear beautiful as compared to these thermocol plates, but please try shifting to them. And, may Krsna be happy with your distribution of parsadam in bio degradable materials.

Also, when these plates are warmed, the styrene compound leaches into the food. The largest leaves we are able to get here are corn husks. Real plates are used here. Not all of them match as far as design goes. They are earthenware plates. If one breaks it becomes earth again real easy. And yes, there is the job of washing the plates. But it becomes more of a delight. The children love to help with the washing. They are reminded, "Who ate from this plate? Who was Krishna in the crowd?" In itself, the washing becomes an act of love and devotion. A few have expressed concerns with, "What is someone really sick eats from the plate and the germs are not properly cleaned." The answer, "If one of us is sick, then we will all be sick. But if one of us is well, we will all be well." There really is no need for such fear and concerns where there is love and devotion to the Lord. Hari Bol And I really hope the message of using other plates besides these petroleum (Monsanto-Monsters) reaches to every single person.

Haribol !
