दरिद्रता

• दरिद्रता कौन है, और कहाँ रहती है
• कहा जाता है कि, दरिद्रा माँलक्ष्मी की बड़ी बहन का नाम है। इनकी उत्पति समुद्र मन्थन के समय लक्ष्मी जी की उत्पत्ति से पहले हुई थी। इसलिये दरिद्रा को ज्येष्ठा भी कहते हैँ। 
• दरिद्र का विवाह दु:सह ब्राम्हण से हुआ। विवाह के बाद दु:सह मुनि जब अपनी पत्नी के साथ विचरण करते तो जिस जगह भगवान का उदघोष, हवन, वेदपाठ होता, वहाँ-वहाँ से दरिद्रा दोनो कान बंद कर दूर भाग जाती। यह देखकर दु:सह मुनि बहुत दु:खी हो गये। उन दिनो सब जगह धर्मकी चर्चा और पुण्य कृत्य हुआ ही करते थे। अत: दरिद्रा भागते भागते थक गयीँ।
• तब दु:सह मुनि उसे लेकर निर्जन वन मेँ चले गये। तब दरिद्रा डर गयी थी कि मेरे पति मुझे छोडकर किसी अन्य कन्या से विवाह न कर लेँ। इस कारण वह बहुत परेशान रहने लगी।
•  अचानक एक दिन उन दोनो को महर्षि मार्कण्डेय जी के दर्शन हुए, तब उन्होने महर्षि को साष्टांग प्रणाम किया और अपनी ब्यथा सुनाई। 
•  अतः दयालु मार्कण्डेय मुनि ने उन्हे बताया कि, 
• जहाँ रुद्रके भक्त हो और भस्म लगाने वाले लोग हो वहाँ तुम लोग प्रवेश न करना।
• जहाँ नारायण गोविन्द शंकर  महादेव आदि भगवान के नाम का कीर्तन होता हो वहाँ तूम दोनो को नही जाना चाहिये, क्योकि आग उगलता हुआ श्री विष्णु का चक्र उन लोँगो के अशुभ का नाश करता रहता है।
• जिस घर मेँ वेदपुराण, गीता का उदघोष होता हो। जहाँ के लोग नित्य भगवान की पूजा मेँ लगे हुए हो उस घर को दूर से ही त्याग देना।
• तब दु:सह मुनि ने पूछा- महर्षे! हमारे रहने के स्थान कौन कौन से हैँ ?  इसपर महर्षि मार्कण्डेय जीने कहा- 
• जहाँ पति पत्नी परस्पर झगडा करते हो उस घर मेँ तुम दोनो निर्भय होकर घुस जाओ।
• जहाँ भगवान की निन्दा होती हो, पूजा, जप, होम आदि न होते हो वह स्थान तुम दोनो के लिए सर्वथा अनुकूल है ।
• जो लोग बच्चो को न देकर स्वयं खा लेते हो । 
• जिस घर मेँ काँटेवाले, दूधवाले, फलवाले, पलाश, निम्बु, केला, इमली, ताड़, कदम्ब, खैर आदी के पेड़ हो वहाँ तुम दरिद्रता के साथ आराम से रह सकते हो । 
• जो स्नान आदि मंगल कृत्य न करते हो, दाँत मुँह साफ नही करते हो, गंदे कपडे पहनते हो, संध्याकाल मेँ सोते या खाते हो, दूसरे की स्त्री से सम्बन्ध बनाते हो, हाथ-पैर न धोते हो,  उन घरो से तुम्हे कोई नही निकाल सकता है।
